Meet Rebecca

We love to celebrate the great team we have here at Kiwi and one of our key members of staff is the lovely Rebecca Burrell.  Becca is often the first contact many of our clients and candidates will have with us and she works really hard matching the perfect person to the right role.

Today you can find out how Becca got into recruitment and what makes her tick!

Name Rebecca (or Becca for short)

Role at Kiwi  Temporary Staff Recruitment Consultant

What was your first job after you left school? I worked for a year at Jacques Vert in Chichester as a Sales Assistant.

When did you get into recruitment?  July 23rd marks my two year anniversary in recruitment 😊 Most of these have been with Kiwi, after an initial three months at another agency.

What do you enjoy most about recruitment?  I love being able to help people and the best part of my day is calling a candidate to tell them that they have a job!  The elation in their voice makes any stress worth it for me. I also have a wonderful opportunity to meet a wide range of people.

Rebecca baked over 100 cupcakes to sell at a Macmillan coffee morning

What skills do you need to make a good recruiter?   You need a lot of patience and confidence. The most important skill in my opinion is to be a great listener.  Both my clients and candidates need for me to understand their needs and wants so unless you take the time to really listen to them you will really struggle.

What’s the funniest or most memorable thing that has happened at Kiwi?  The funniest moment is hard to pinpoint as we really know how to have a good laugh in the office.  From the little games we play to Brendon modelling his son’s new bike, there has never been a day that the team don’t make me laugh.  The most memorable was the day I was given my first business card. I know it sounds small, but for me that was a special moment as it meant I had passed probation!

The Kiwi Recruitment team (Rebecca far right)

What do you enjoy most about working at Kiwi?  I have had the opportunity to learn from some amazing people. The team here are so supportive of everything I do and have my back every step of the way, and although we have our moments I would not change them for the world.  Not only do they support me inside of work, but the team also all came to see me in a play last year and Kiwi sponsors the charity horse show that I have helped out with every year since I was a child

How have things changed since the pandemic?  Covid sucks!  Unfortunately, the pandemic has caused a lot of people to lose their jobs which has led to an increased number of candidates calling us and I feel so sorry for everyone.  I really hope that they find something they love just as much.

What’s been your biggest achievement at Kiwi?  I think that my biggest achievement was the first booking I had brought on and filled by myself, and no, I did not pick an easy one.  I had a meeting with a company about an Auto CAD Technician (which I spent the entire evening before Googling so I had an idea what it was), filled the job within a week and still have temps with them to this day.

What do you like doing in your spare time?  On the weekends I work as an equine photographer for LRG.  My family have always competed in horse shows and I love to take photos so it was a brilliant mix!  I am currently training with Chichester Rugby Club too, which is on Thursdays at 6pm if anyone is interested.  I have met some wonderful friends there and do my best at keeping fit.  I also have spent most of my life on stage in plays, musicals or as a competition dancer.
