This includes your experiences and voluntary work, however is there such thing as too much CV experience?

You have to be careful with what you list on your CV, as you don’t want to leave your potential employer spooked. Follow our top three tips to keep your CV in check.

Relate the Experience to the Job

With the position in mind, edit your work experience so it relates to the job specification. For example, if you have been working as a sales assistant in a DIY shop and you are applying to be a hotel receptionist, you need to examine the positive experience you gained through being a shop assistant, such as great customer service skills and apply that to your job application.

Be Careful with Adding Short Term Employment

If your CV shows that you have been in and out of jobs for the past few years, but they haven’t been long-term, this can be a red flag to prospective employers. Unless this is temp employment, we suggest to overcome this by only including the last three employers, or as mentioned earlier, the experience that is most suitable to the job at hand.

Make Sure You Fill in the Blanks

Okay, so you might have been on a gap year to Thailand or you were unemployed for a few months. As important as looking for a job is, always remember to include other things that you were doing at the time. This could include volunteering, learning skills through online courses or doing charity work. This helps the recruiter understand what you were doing during this period and it can also give them a better impression of your personality.
