09 Mar How to Deal with Job Rejection
Job Rejection is something everyone has to face at some point in their lives. Whether it’s not hearing back from a company or not getting the job after you thought you aced the interview. We understand that rejection can be tough but don’t take it too personally, as job rejection can also be seen as a good thing.
Some of the most talented and iconic people have been rejected at some point. JK Rowling, was rejected many times before Harry Potter was finally published. The Beatles were first rejected by Decca Records and Oprah was fired from her first television job at 23.
There are countless other tales of rejections, but it is part of life and can often lead to better things. So, you might be down in the dumps about the interview for the job you didn’t get but in the long run, it won’t matter.
However, there are some important points you should think about when you are going through the job process. Remember:
Do have a Plan B
Go for your dreams and put 100% into everything you do, but remember to have a back-up. For example, if you are job-seeking and find the perfect position that you know will be just right, don’t pin all your hopes on it. Rather than waiting to hear back, keep applying for other jobs.
Ask for Feedback
Don’t be left in the lurch on why you didn’t get that job, ask. It’s normal to ask for feedback and if they are a good employer, they will give it to you. Hopefully, this can be constructive towards your next job interview and you can become a better applicant in your next round of job hunting.
Be Positive
This one is important, because taking on rejection is hard. Nobody likes it and it can be a huge hit to our ego but we have to learn from it to become better. Use the feedback and tell yourself: “Next time, the job is mine.”
Take on your rejection and let it work for you. It’s normal to feel injured after facing job rejection, but don’t let it dominate your life. Just because you weren’t fit for one role, doesn’t mean you can’t be a fantastic addition to another company. Keep positive and keep going.
