August Events

There are a lot of exciting events occurring in the small city of Chichester this August. Take a look at this list of local events. No need to venture abroad to have fun this summer!

Qatar ‘Glorious’ Goodwood

Qatar Goodwood Festival, commonly known as ‘Glorious Goodwood’, takes place from 30th July until 3rd of August. Hosted by a racecourse that is broadly known as the most beautiful in the world, tickets start at £25 (children go free), with each day starting at 11.00am.

The event boasts a thrilling day of watching races and socialising, with fabulous food and drink available on site. 7 Races will take place over the 5-day event. The 1st of August is ‘Ladies Day’, giving you and your pals the perfect excuse to dress up! Ladies Day involves a ladies’ amateur jockey race that raises money for Wellbeing of Women. Tickets can only be purchased on the Goodwood website.

Chilli Fiesta

West Dean Garden’s will be hosting a Chilli Fiesta from the 9-11th of August 2019. The event made The Telegraph’s list of ‘the top 20 UK food festivals for 2019’. The event is described as ‘the UK’s biggest chilli festival. Dance to live Latin music, watch cookery and gardening demonstrations and taste delicious chilli foods ’til your tongue sizzles. Make the most of the family-friendly festival atmosphere and camp onsite with great facilities.’

It is possible to pay on the day, but campers are required to buy their tickets beforehand. Tickets purchased in advanced will be emailed to you. Children under 4 are allowed free-entry, and children 16+ need an adult ticket.

Chichester Festival Theatre and The Minerva Theatre

This August at the Chichester Festival Theatre is Oklahoma. Showing from 15 July – 7 September, the show runs for about 3 hours and 35 minutes including an interval. Tickets range from £10 to £55.

Across the road from the Chichester Festival Theatre, in the Minerva Theatre, is 8 Hotels. This show will be running from 1 -24 August and prices start from £40.

Chichester Festival Youth Theatre are putting on a promenade performance of Crossing Lines. This performance will go on from 17 – 24 August, and runs for 1 hour and 55 minutes without an interval. The show will see the audience following the cast on foot around Chichester’s centre.

Kids Party in the Park

Priory Park will host a children’s party on the 14th of August. Entry is free and the event starts at 10.30am and finishes at 4pm.

The schedule will run as follows:

10:30 – 11:00 Mascots

11:00 – 11:30 Adventure babies

11:40 – 12:10 little tots workshop

12:20 – 12:50 Boomtingz party

13:00 – 13:30 hellcats cheerleading

13:40 – 14:10 party with the princesses and mascots

14:20 – 14:50 magic martin & tricky nicky

15:00 – 15:30 kids entertainment

15:30 – 4:00 disco and games

Chichester Summer Street Party

This fun event is being sponsored by The Co-op. The Facebook page for the event writes: ‘Chichester District Council and Chichester BID are working in partnership to create this exciting summer evening event. Plans include a wealth of entertainment for all ages from a carousel to face painting.’

The event is on Thursday the 22nd of August from 16:00 – 20:00 on East Street in Chichester.

Weald and Downland Living Museum

The Museum hosts Wonderful Wednesday’s every Wednesday throughout August. Activities will be shown on the Weald and Downland website ahead of each Wednesday. The day will start at 11am and finish at 4pm.

The Weald and Downland is also hosting an open air cinema screening of Mamma Mia 2 on Tuesday the 20th of August from 19:00 – 22:00. The cinema will then screen Bohemian Rhapsody on the 22nd of August from 19:00 – 22:00.
